Threads' new control over blocked accounts is a useful step toward better online safety for teens, but technical tools only work when paired with real conversation. Letting parents see who their teen has blocked can help spot unwanted contacts or signs of distress early, and it is a sensible addition to Meta's Family Center. At the same time, supervision should remain a form of support rather than a replacement for trust: teens need to feel free to talk about what they experience online. Real safety comes from combining platform controls with open conversations at home.
