Meta Launches Muse AI Agent for Booking, Planning, and Shopping Across WhatsApp and Instagram
Meta has introduced Muse, a personal AI agent designed to handle everyday tasks such as booking travel, planning activities, filling out forms, managing emails, and making purchases with user approval. The company says Muse is built with privacy protections at its core and is initially available in the U.S. through its app, web access, and WhatsApp integration.
What Muse Can Do
Muse is positioned as a hands-on assistant that goes beyond answering questions. It can send emails, book reservations, build plans, lower bills, turn recipes into grocery lists, and support shopping and payments through connected services. Meta says the agent is meant to work across the apps people already use every day, including WhatsApp and Instagram.
- Book travel and reservations
- Plan trips, events, and errands
- Fill out forms and send emails
- Create shopping lists and complete purchases with approval
- Connect to apps such as calendars, payments, shopping, health, and smart home tools
Privacy and Security Features
Meta says Muse runs inside a dedicated secure environment called Muse Secure VM, which keeps the agent separated from broader systems. A second system, Sentinel, is designed to monitor and approve actions before anything reaches the internet, and users must grant permission for sensitive tasks.
The company also says Muse does not see users’ passwords or payment methods directly, and people can choose which apps the agent connects to and revoke access at any time. Meta has also said an encrypted version of the system is planned for later this year.
How Muse Fits Into WhatsApp and Instagram
Muse is available through WhatsApp and is expected to tie into Meta’s wider app ecosystem, including Instagram and Facebook features. In practice, that means the agent can draw from connected services and user permissions to help organize tasks, summarize content, and support personal planning across Meta’s platforms.
Availability and Access
Muse is launching first in the United States and is available through a dedicated app, the web, and WhatsApp. Meta is offering the service for free initially, with some reports indicating premium tiers may be added later for heavier automation use.
Why Muse Matters
Muse reflects Meta’s push into consumer AI agents that can take action, not just generate text. Its launch also highlights the growing competition around useful, privacy-conscious AI assistants that can manage real-world tasks while giving users control over data and permissions.
Conclusion
Meta’s Muse AI agent combines booking, planning, and shopping assistance with a security-focused design and deep integration across WhatsApp and Instagram. If Meta can deliver on both convenience and privacy, Muse could become one of its most practical AI products yet.
Muse is less an AI assistant than a permissions broker: its real product is not convenience, but the trust layer that decides which parts of a user’s digital life an agent can safely touch. If Meta gets that layer right, the competitive moat won’t be the answers Muse gives, but the number of high-friction actions users stop doing themselves.
